The third prompt for the idea book is to make our names in photos of found type. Found type is short for “found typography,” which is where you collect typography found in your environment to create images and words. As a designer, I am always looking for interesting fonts and typefaces. The best typefaces I have seen are the ones that I find on posters, restaurant signs, and magazines.
For my name, I used various letters I found walking around Eugene, Oregon. I took letters from the University of Oregon Earth Week poster, 7×7 magazine, and Oregon Voice magazine. When making my first and last name, I was conscious of how the strokes and colors of the typeface blended together. I added the skull, swallow, and various flowers to create more depth and fill in the spaces of the page.
