Influencers is a short documentary film about what influence is and what it means to be an influencer in today’s society. By definition, influence is the ability to impact other people’s behavior, character, and feeling towards a certain issue. Whether it be through art, music, fashion, or sports, influence can be found anywhere. Influencers become influencers because they identify what they like and spread it; they know there is no right or wrong when it comes to taste. Influencers are influenced by everything that is around them and are aware of their surroundings. They are the curious ones who can recognize the next new thing and popularize it.
Influencers don’t attempt to start the next new trend purposefully. They spread trends and change markets because they stay true to themselves. Deirdre Maloney, the co-founder of BPMW agency says an influencer is “A person who can take an idea, a brand, a concept that is not in the mainstream’s consciousness and bring it to the consciousness.” I agree with Maloney — Influencers have the ability to make an unknown known because they are passionate and consistent with their tastes and interests. In the documentary, an interviewee stated that trends usually rise from the younger class because they don’t have any money. Young people have to get creative by what they can afford. Limitations influence creativity because you have to problem solve and work around your short comings.
The documentary explores how influencers spread trends and how they became to be influencers. It’s a film that makes you realize that influence can be found anywhere; you just have to be observant.
