WPP, the world’s largest communications services group, recently came out with their BrandZ Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands 2012 list. BrandZ is a database run by WPP and they collect raw data about brands every year by interviewing consumers and brand professionals. The database holds over “60,000 brand results in over 200 categories including consumer packaged goods, retail/e-commerce brands, long purchase cycle brands, service, and corporate.” The data is reliable for all the opinions gathered in the database are of those from people who know each of the categories very well.
In 2012, BrandZ ranked the top 100 most valuable global brands by their relevance in the digital world, creativity to generate buzz using various mediums, adaptation to the challenging global economy, and brand contribution to the consumers and environment.

BrandZ study shows that the technology industry reign the world’s most valuable brands. In this day and age where technology is king, tech industries show strong performance in most markets. Technology companies continue to create innovative products and services that creates lasting impressions in the hearts of consumers and brand professionals. In 2012, Apple had a “66 percent increase in net sales [and] $108.2 billion during its 2011 fiscal year.” It is not surprising that Apple ranks as number one because in 2012, they introduced the iPad 2, iPhone 4S with Siri voice activation, iCloud, and a new Mac operating system named Lion. Apple continues to innovate and upgrade their products, which enables to keep the top spot year to year.
